2022 in Review

Whilst we settle in to the new year and plan for big things in 2023, we have taken some time to reflect on the highlights for Line in the Sand in 2022. From our partnership with Nature Conservation Margaret River and to the exciting collaborations with local businesses that support smaller local projects, it was a truly successful year.

2022 Caring for Coast Highlights

  • Partnering with 14 local groups to deliver on ground action on the Capes Coast.

  • Conducting community working bees at iconic locations including Redgate Beach, Injidup Natural Spa, Gracetown's North point, Gas Bay and the Margaret River Rivermouth.

  • Moving and placing mountains of brush, planting over 2000 native plants, and fencing key access ways and dunes.

  • Collaborating with WSL and local organisations in the Margaret River Pro for coastal rehabilitation at Gas Bay.

2022 Adopt a Spot Highlights

  • Receiving a special commendation at the 2022 WA Coastal Awards for Excellence.

  • Engagement with nine primary schools and 440 students from Augusta to Yallingup.

  • Planting 3,700 plants at key coastal sites, laying brush and follow up watering, weeding and monitoring.

  • Adopted spots include Hamelin Bay, Cowaramup Bay, Gnarabup, Redgate, Darch Brook, Yallingup foreshore and Margaret River Foreshore and Rivermouth

Support of Local Businesses

In 2022 we launched product collaborations with some incredible local businesses including a German Wheat Beer with Shelter Brewing, the organic Line in the Sand coffee blend from Margaret River Roasting Co, and the 2022 Line in the Sand Rosé with Stormflower Vineyard. We also saw the introduction of Line in the Sand donation QR codes at White Elephant Café. These businesses are passionate about protecting and restoring their local coastline and are bringing both attention and funding to the important work that Line in the Sand facilitates.
